چکیده

Data on estimating the vertical dimension of occlusion(VDO)for fabricating a complete denture based tongue pressure, which is related to masticatory and swallowing functions, are scarce. This study aimed examine changes in pressure raising or lowering VDO from most comfortable position(MCP). Ten edentulous, including Eichner C3, patients with existing dentures(six men four women; mean age, 78.6±7.14 years)were recruited hospital setting. Twelve different height-positioning stimulus stainless-steel blocks were used(from +1 mm 6 +9 -1 -4 mm). position (MCP)and at respective height measured. One-way analysis variance(ANOVA)and Dunnett’s test performed analyze differences VDOs. There no significant between intervals(-1 mm, p = 0.99)on MCP. Tongue decreased marginally when was raised +5 MCP(p=0.054); it continued show decrease +6 mm(p=0.041)and +7 mm(p=0.035)from did not change significantly lowered These results suggest that may be set 5 MCP new dentures.

The influence of the occlusal vertical dimension on masticatory muscle activities and hyoid bone position in complete denture wearers.

PURPOSE Long lasting usage of complete dentures causes lower occlusal vertical dimension, producing potential detrimental consequences. The aim of this study was to investigate how changes in vertical dimension during denture exchange affect muscular activity and hyoid bone position. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-five edentulous, otherwise healthy patients (14 females, 11 males) aged 70.5 +/- 9...

Reestablishment of Occlusal Vertical Dimension in Complete Denture Wearing in Two Stages

The assessment and reestablishment of the occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) are considered important factors in the treatment of complete denture wearers. The long-time use of a complete denture can result in jaw displacement due to abrasion of the artificial teeth and residual ridge resorption, causing esthetic complications. Most patients with old dentures and incorrect OVD accept reestablish...
